My Story

I have always loved reading. I don't remember a time where I wasn't reading. Some of my earliest memories are of my mom reading to me in my bed before I went to sleep or going to Border's bookstore and spending hours just combing through the displays and through the shelves, figuring out which books I wanted to buy and read. I was that kid that stayed up for hours after it was time to go to sleep with a flashlight in my hand as I read under the blankets, hoping my parents wouldn't find me awake and reading since I was supposed to be asleep.

As I grew older, so did my love of reading. I went to college and majored in English (and History, but that isn't important). I even became an English teacher so I could share my love of reading with the next generation.

But as I continued to read, I realized that I never really talked to anyone about what I was reading. Sure I would talk to my students about the books I assigned, but never the books I enjoyed or why I enjoyed them. I was reading over 100 books a year and nobody knew.

In my opinion, reading isn't meant to be a solitary journey. Books bring people together. They create communities. They enable connections. They highlight the issues with today's world, while giving hope for the world to come or even create new worlds that show us that we aren't as alone as we thought. They offer new perspectives, perspectives we might not get if we didn't pick up that book. Reading those books are the greatest treasures and the most precious gift we as individuals posses. And I want to share that gift with others.

My story isn't really that unique, but I want to be able to share the books that I'm reading because I am a reader and reading is a passion of mine that is engrained within me. It is something I do daily in every facet of my life. I hope that you can enjoy my passion with me and even reignite or continue to develop your love of reading too.
